It stars Stanley Tucci as Colin Finnegan, Jake's illiterate brother, and Peter Dinklage as Mr. Hazard, the main antagonist of the film. The supporting cast consists of Ariel Winter, Dick Van Dyke, Chloe Grace Moretz, Rebel Wilson, Charles Dance, Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Samuel L Jackson and Michelle Rodriguez. The title of the film is a reference to the famous line from Paradise Lost 'Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven', spoken by Satan, the story's anti-hero.

HistoryText
  • "Come the day when the children of Lilith are called home to the Pit, then let the servants of Light know not relief, for on that day there shall be War in Hell." A conflict is sweeping the Underworld, as a mysterious army emerges from the ninth Dominion and attempts to take control. The sufferers in Hell are expecting similar treatment from all sides, but the invaders are courteous. They serve Lord Satanus and Lady Blaze, current rulers of Purgatory, who are attempting to conquer hell to increase their power base. They are using one weapon that neron never could - hope; the hope of reduced sentence and penance paid, the hope that Purgatory embodies. However, as the war spreads, Neron desperately asks Lilth to call her children home. Across the DCU, mystic entities are summoned to Hell to serve on one side or another. With the stakes so high, both sides are willing to offer deals to Earthly magicians, and the prospect of a gentler Hell is enough enticement to draw them on. The story is ongoing.
