- Edward VII was born on November 9th 1841 as the second child and first son of Queen Victoria. He grew up under a very watchful eye as he was the heir to the British throne. But, Edward was not that smart. When his teacher drew up a very strict timetable for him to follow, he responded by pulling the teacher's beard. Victoria did not like Edward, calling him a "pistol locked in a box" which referred to him being something deadly to be kept away. Edward later adopted a playboy persona, who had numerous affairs with women. To stop this persona, Edward was sent to Oxford University and the British Navy. This made Edward more miserable than ever, and then caused a scandal when he began an relationship with actress, Nellie Clifden. This shocked his father, Albert outrightly and he died afterwards. Victoria always blamed him for Albert's death. To stop from embarrassing the country, an arrangement marriage was sorted. Edward married Alexandra of Denmark on March 10th 1863. But, Victoria refused to attend the wedding, so instead she watched from a balcony in her widow's weeds. Edward still had affairs, but Alexandra forgave him for all the affairs as if they divorced, Denmark and the United Kingdom will be embarrassed with rumours. In 1884, Edward fell ill, and he nearly died. When he got better, he tried to impress Victoria during her Golden Jubilee, but failed. In 1900, he eventually made peace with Victoria, and she died a year later, making him Edward VII. His reign was then known as the Edwardian era. Known for his whiskered beard, hunting dogs and his habit of smoking cigars, his era saw some changes to the British Empire, such as the necessity of chimneys and child labour. Edward fell ill in 1909, and died on May 6th 1910. His funeral was attended by hundreds of world leaders. Edward's attitude was considered awful. He was considered a fat, mean and disgruntled king, He was infamous for killing 36 flamingoes in half an hour in Kenya. He was also infamous for pulling practical jokes on friends, even friends who done nothing wrong to him.
