| - Shomrat () is a kibbutz in the Western Galilee region of Israel. Located on the coastal highway just northe of Acre, it falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Asher Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 347. The kibbutz was founded in 1948 by Hashomer Hatzair members from Slovakia and Romania. It was named for the Shomrat area, from which the Tribe of Asher came. The founders originally resided in the experimental government station near Acre, and moved to the permanent location in 1950. In August, 1988, Shomrat became notorious for a much covered rape case. Six teenage boys had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl over a period of several days in the kibbutz. They were acquitted by a District judge in Haifa, but the decision was later overturned by the Supreme Court of Israel. Shomrat has a successful furniture factory, operating several stores in Israel.
