The Red Sticks were a traditionalist faction of the Creek Nation. Their anti-white ways, inspired in part by Shawnee leader Tecumseh, led to an outbreak of civil war within the Creek, which came to be called the Creek War (1813-1814). In the aftermath of the Massacre at Mims Fort, the United States became involved, as did the Cherokee. The war was finally ended at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
