He shifted plans in 1988 and joined the Canadian National Team where he stayed through the 1992 Olympics (except for a year in Italy). Hynes won a silver medal in 1992. After the Olympics, Hynes joined the Boston Bruins near the end of the 1991-92 season. He scored 5 assist in 15 regular season games and 1 goal and 2 assists in 12 playoff games. The next season saw him sign as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers. He got into 37 games with them, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists. That was the extent of his NHL experience. After one more season in the minor pros, Hynes moved to Germany where he played for seven seasons, retiring in 2002.
