The North Bay Trappers were a minor professional team that played in the Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL). North Bay was offered a team in the EPHL when it was formed in 1959 but it was turned down. It was felt that senior hockey was more appropriate for the city. The senior team folded early in the 1959-60 Northern Ontario Senior Playoffs. In 1961, when the Montreal Royals folded, North Bay jumped at the chance to replace them. The team was a Montreal Canadiens farm team but got players from several different sources.
