The Miniroid is an infant Phazon Metroid. They are found in large floating swarms, on the derelict G.F.S. Valhalla and planet Phaaze. Miniroids are often found with fully mature Phazon Metroids. Contrary to their mature forms, however, they are not aggressive. They can only cause damage to Samus if she collides with them. To avoid premature death they travel in swarms to increase their chances of survival. They bear a striking resemblance to the more aggressive Infant Tallon Metroids seen only in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Unlike Infant Tallon Metroids, Miniroids will not rapidly grow by touching Phazon. Also, Miniroids can be killed with one beam shot, while the Tallon IV infants take quite a bit more; the former's adult form is ultimately stronger than Tallon Metroids however.

The eggs from which they are believed to hatch from appear to be very large compared to the Miniroid, possibly indicating that numerous Miniroids inhabit each egg. Also, groups of extremely large structures bearing an identical resemblance to eggs can be seen when Samus first lands on the Pirate Homeworld. These may actually contain a certain kind of Metroid, or are simply Phazon growths.
