Diddy or Dixie Kong must jump on the target from a sufficient height to make the barrel go up and smash a prize. The prizes are random and usually cycle. Example of prizes are Banana Coins, Bananas, Extra Life Balloons, the letter "G", or rarely a DK Coin. Upon winning any prize, Diddy or Dixie will celebrate their winnings with a rap & stereo and a guitar solo respectively. Hitting the target from too low of a height will result in gaining no prize, but you still complete the stage nonetheless.
