Louie Garcia was the son of mob boss Frank Garcia, a longtime friend of Jorge Cruz. Jorge's son Felipe and Louie were childhood friends, which turned to a romantic relationship with both discovered their true sexuality. Their relationship ended amicably, but Louie later contracted AIDS (how this happened was never explained) and moved from New York (where the Garcia homebase is) to Miami to be with Felipe's uncle Ernesto Lupe, a priest running an AIDS hospice. Felipe also returned to Miami after learning his friend's condition, and arrived to share Louie's final moments before he succumbed to the disease in 1987.
