The chameleon projector was a system used on small craft by the Federation Starfleet. The system would project an image across the hull of a vessel making it blend in with its surroundings. While the device was effective against visual sensors it did not mask the vessel from other sensors. Starfleet Intelligence Special Operations Branch used the chameleon projector system on some of their shuttlecraft.

While the device was effective against visual sensors it did not mask the vessel from other sensors. Starfleet Intelligence Special Operations Branch used the chameleon projector system on some of their shuttlecraft. In 2367, the Type-7 shuttlecraft Dionysus, assigned to the USS Prospect, used the system during an undercover away team mission to Goffan III to determine if the Jenchum Suzerainty was building a subspace weapon. The system was used also in an attempt to extract second officer Kari Eriksson from the planet. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night")
