| - Tijdens de Dominion oorlog was de planeet de locatie van een Dominion communicatie array. Na de invasie van Cardassia werd de planeet gedurende vijf maanden door Starfleet troepen bezet in de hoop de array te kunnen gebruiken om in te breken in de Dominion communicatie. De planeet bleek uitermate moeilijk verdedigbaar te zijn. Het Chin'toka systeem was de plaats van herhaaldelijke confrontaties, waardoor de bevoorrading van de planeet in de praktijk onmogelijk was. De Federatie troepen die de array bewaakten kozen een geschikte positie aan het einde van een grot, maar werden vanaf het begin af aan aangevallen. Herhaaldelijke Dominion aanvallen tastten de sterkte en het moraal aan. Während Ezri Dax versucht, einen Tricorder zu modifizieren, um damit die Minen aufzuspüren, richtet Captain Sisko einen neuen Verteidigungsperimeter ein. Als Ezri wenig später Erfolg hat werden die Houdinis in einem kleinen Tal eingesetzt, um die anrückenden Jem'Hadar zu dezimieren. Der Plan verläuft erfolgreich, allerdings greifen die Jem'Hadar trotzdem an, und es kommt zu einem verzweifelten Kampf zwischen beiden Seiten. Wenig später ist der Kampf vorbei, aus dem die Sternenflotte als Sieger hervorgeht. Allerdings hat dieser letzte Angriff wieder Leben gefordert. Auch werden mehrere Personen schwer verletzt, wie beispielsweise Fähnrich Nog, der durch den Schuss eines feindlichen Disruptors sein Bein verliert. Kurze Zeit später trifft endlich die USS Veracruz ein, die neues Personal an Bord hat. Die Überlebenden von AR-558 werden abgelöst und ärztlich versorgt. Following a victory in the Chin'toka system, (See: First Battle of Chin'toka), the Dominion were driven from the array by Starfleet troops who hoped to use the captured array to tap into Dominion communications. The array was held by these troops for five months without replacements. The planet proved very difficult to defend. The Chin'toka system was the site of repeated confrontation, making re-supply to the planet impractical for extended periods. The Federation troops guarding the array selected a suitably defensible position at the closed end of a subterranean cavern, but were besieged almost from the start. Repeated Dominion attacks sapped both force strength and morale. Even though the location of their strongpoint forced the Dominion to advance through a narrow canyon, the casualties suffered by the Federation rendered it impractical to take full advantage of the terrain and forced them to wait for each successive assault while hoping for re-supply. Although there were initially one hundred and fifty personnel posted there, by the time the USS Defiant made a supply run to the planet in mid-2375 that number had been reduced to only forty three surviving troops by repeated Jem'Hadar attacks and the prevalence of subspace anti-personnel mines, nicknamed "Houdinis". It was only when the crew of the Defiant, working with the troops, were able to disarm the mines and re-purpose them to attack advancing Jem'Hadar that the Federation gained some semblance of advantage in the situation. The casualties were heavy, however, and included Captain Loomis, Commander Parker, Lieutenant Larkin, Crewman Kellin, McGreevey and Vargas. Relief troops and engineers were later sent aboard the USS Veracruz to replace the surviving troops. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon") After the Federation was defeated at the Second Battle of Chin'toka, AR-558 was retaken by the Dominion. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")

Captain Loomis and Commander Parker were killed, and command of the post passed to Lieutenant Nadia Larkin. Ten days later, Captain Benjamin Sisko and the crew of the USS Defiant arrived at AR-558 to deliver supplies. Seeing at how desperate the situation had become, Sisko, Ezri Dax, Julian Bashir, Nog and Quark remained on the planet to help fight off the Jem'Hadar. The Defiant was forced to leave due to attacks by Jem'Hadar warships. To ascertain the number of Jem'Hadar troops, Captain Sisko sent Nog, Larkin and Reese to gather intelligence. After finding the enemy camp, they were attacked by the Jem'Hadar. Larkin was killed and Nog's leg was hit by the Jem'Hadar weapons. Reese managed to get Nog back to the camp, but Doctor Bashir was unable to save the leg. Thanks to Nog's efforts in locating the camp, Kellin and Ezri had the Houdini mines detonated near them, killing many of the enemy troops. The remaining Jem'Hadar launched their attack on Sisko's forces. They breached the Starfleet lines, where Kellin was killed saving Ezri and Vargas was stabbed with a Jem'Hadar knife. Sisko himself was hit by the butt of a Jem'Hadar rifle, losing consciousness for a few moments. He was saved by Reese and the battle ended soon after. (DS9 episode: "The Siege of AR-558")
