Johnny Lightfoot arrived in the Zone one day after receiving a distress call from one such worker. The sheep would have preferred it if Sonic the Hedgehog had come to help, but Johnny insisted on saving the day. He was soon ambushed by Commander Brutus' Badniks, but used the Badniks' terrible aim to destroy the factory, liberating its slaves. The Zone continued to be the centre of attention for a while, with Brutus using his Brain Scanner on Johnny to discover the whereabouts of the Emerald Hill folk and his part in Bob Beaky's Travelling Circus. Brutus left the Zone when he realised he had absorbed the traits of one of the Freedom Fighters.
