| - "Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate)" is a indie-rocked based group out of Metro-Detroit, Michigan. The project was started in 2006 as a solo project by Keith Latinen while he was engineering his own band, Anna Flyaway's, record. Latinen wrote and recorded every instrument on the debut EP, "When the Sea Became a Giant" and shortly after finishing the cd, his main project, Anna Flyaway, broke up. Using "When the Sea Became a Giant" as a jumping point, Latinen decided to turn Empire! Empire! into a full-band, quickly recruiting his wife Cathy, who had contributed vocals on the EP and had played guitar in Anna Flyaway, as well as Anna Flyaway bassist Danny Miller. After a few months, Miller left the band, and the duo went through a number of members before finding bassist Rich Ayers and drummer Jon Murrell in early 2008. After it's release, "When the Sea Became a Giant" quickly made the rounds over the internet and picked up a number of positive reviews, including smother.net, sound as language, and absolutepunk.net. It was also picked up for distribution in America via Smart Punk,Europe through "Strictly No Capital Records", and Japan's "Stiff Slack Records". During the search for permanent members, Keith and Cathy wrote and recorded a 7" record called "Year of the Rabbit", which was released on January 15th, 2008, almost a year after "When the Sea Became a Giant". "Year of the Rabbit" was co-released by Strictly No Capital Records of England and on the band's own label, "Count Your Lucky Stars" in the United States. The record was mixed by Minus the Bear Keyboardist Alex Rose (Minus the Bear, Mewithoutyou) at the Piano Studio in Seattle, Washington, and mastered by Rick Fisher at RF/CDI Mastering in Seattle, Washington. Soon after the release, Ayers and Murrell joined, and group took to the road to support their newest release.
