The number one reason why kids quit swimming is that there isn't enough WATER POLO. Lots and lots of swimmers would stay much longer in the sport of swimming if there was a better connection between the water polo and swim programs. It is a good problem to have when a few of the swimmers QUIT the sport of swimming BECAUSE they want to be fully dedicated water polo. The easy way to start is to hold half of one practice every other week as a water polo scrimmage. But play with the real rules. Skill and drill a little bit. Sub in and out with a dry-land station for those just exiting the game.

Within the world of AQUATICS, individuals can find many pursuits and challenges. Different strokes for different folks -- and I don't mean just the strokes in the I.M. Go beyond. Biathlons, Triathlons, Open Water, Water Polo, SKWIM, Diving, Sycro, Underwater Hockey, Swim Instructors, Jr. Coaching, Lifeguarding, Nippers, Lifeguard Competitions, Snorkeling, Yoga, Running, Weightlifting / Powerlifting, and even Kayak and Canoe Water Polo can be parts of a well rounded, suite of activities that retains more interest and participation. Those side-line pursuits can help the swim team flourish. The easy way to start is to hold half of one practice every other week as a water polo scrimmage. But play with the real rules. Skill and drill a little bit. Sub in and out with a dry-land station for those just exiting the game. Then hold a three week mini-season where water polo is played every day for those who opt into that sub-team. Make it happen Monday after the last big meet of the year. Start the non-state kids a week early while the state super-stars are in their taper. The water polo isn't for them at this point anyway.
