In his job, he served as a crown attourney for the New Brunswick Provincial Court from 1968-1972 then he served on the New Brunswick Superior Court from 1972-1977, at the New Brunswick Court of Appeals from 1977-1984 and at the Supreme Court of Canada from 1984-1988. In 1988, he was courted by the Liberal Party to run in his old home-province in the riding of Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe. The move was considered well worth it after he won the seat in the federal election from Progressive Conservative, Dennis Cochrane. He now has a home in Moncton and in Ottawa. He met his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" in 1963 while studying at UNB. The two married on October 1, 1965 and had their first child, a daughter Catherine "Cat" Gilroy in 1968. Cat married Marshall Alexander in 1990 and are expecting a child in early 1994. Liz and Bruce had their second child, Robert Paul, in 1971. Robert is now studying at UNB for his Masters in Arts specializing in the French Language with eventual plans to get into education. Bruce is currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Moncton--Riverview--Dieppe.
