John Clarricoats (1898-1969) was an amateur radio operator (call-sign G6CL) and local politician active in the Southgate area. Born in Lewisham, he moved to the rapidly developing north London suburb of Southgate. Clarricoats became the general secretary of the Radio Society of Great Britain, and was the author of a number of books on the subject. He was awarded the OBE in the 1955 New Years Honours. Clarricoats became the general secretary of the Radio Society of Great Britain, and was the author of a number of books on the subject. He was awarded the OBE in the 1955 New Years Honours. He became a member of Southgate Borough Council, he served as Mayor of Southgate in 1955-56. When Southgate became part of the larger London Borough of Enfield in 1965 he became a member of the London Borough council. He was chosen as Mayor of Enfield for 1968-69, but died during his term of office. Some information here [1].
