- Melas was a Sarkan patron of Chalmun's Cantina in the year 0 BBY, shortly before the Battle of Yavin. Melas had mottled gray skin and blue eyes and wore red and tan robes, along with a red turban.
- Melas was one of four (or five) sons of Phrixus and Khalkiope. He was also a grandson of King Aeëtes of Colchis . Phrontis and his brothers were raised in Kolkhis, but after their father died, he and his brothers set out to avenge their father’s ill treatment in the hands of king Athamas of Orchomenus and were stranded on the Island of Ares the War God in the Black Sea until they were rescued from the island by the Jason and the Argonauts. Once Jason received discovered that Phrontis and his brothers were grandsons of King Aeëtes of Colchis, Jason convinced Phrontis and his brothers to return with him to Colchis and help him to obtain the Golden Fleec. - Melas werd vele jaren voor de Battle of Yavin verbannen van Sarka nadat hij zijn jeugd als een paria had doorgebracht. Melas werd verbannen omdat hij was geboren met blauwe ogen, een kleine gestalte en botte klauwen had maar vooral omdat hij interesse toonde in andere soorten species en de complexe rituelen in het omgaan met anderen vaak achterwege liet. Zijn fysieke handicap betekende een schande voor zijn familie. Voordat hij echter gedwongen werd om te vertrekken, stal Melas een fortuin aan edelstenen en metalen mee.
