The most inhospitable and looked-downed of all the Covenant's homeworlds and a good contender for that title when compared to many colony worlds, Balaho is arguably one of the toughest environments for life to attempt to survive in. For many beings, its heavy atmosphere and cold climate means that only the most advanced establishments and settlements could support a colony, making its habitability status very slim. If that didn't convince outsiders that it couldn't support life, then its atmosphere was almost depleted of Oxygen, and despite its appearance its atmosphere was filled with huge levels of greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide and Methane, and had very little amounts of fresh water on its surface. It seemed to most that Balaho was destined to be an utterly useless rock in spac

abstract
  • The most inhospitable and looked-downed of all the Covenant's homeworlds and a good contender for that title when compared to many colony worlds, Balaho is arguably one of the toughest environments for life to attempt to survive in. It seemed to most that Balaho was destined to be an utterly useless rock in space - until the Covenant Empire's scouts discovered this was not the case. Balaho served as the unlikely birthplace of the Unggoy; a species of sentient arthropods who inhabited the equatorial zones and a small space outside of that region. Once they were incorporated into the Covenant, after a number of rebellions they colonised other worlds to make its population unnecessary. While it does have an admittedly-small mining industry and being the capital of the system's government, the Unggoy Coalition, there is often very little reason to travel here. Even among its natives, Balaho isn't a popular holiday destination unless its to the environmentally-sealed cities established by the Covenant.
