The University of Minnesota football coach requested this march in 1926. When it was time for its premiere, however, it was played not at the University but at the 1927 Minnesota State Fair. Sousa used Indian themes in the march because he had been impressed by the number of Indian names he encountered in Minnesota. At the time, he called it "the best piece I have ever written." --James Huff 07:03, 13 May 2008 (UTC) (from the program notes of The Claremont Winds, submitted with permission)
