| - Dateline: 1999 The Cooke Family is able to raise the money needed to continue ownership of the Washington Redskins... 1999 Season- Washington Redskins ultimately win their playoff game against Tampa Bay to advance to the NFC Championship where they face the St. Louis Rams... The Rams win the Championship in a landslide, 35-0 and advance to the Superbowl but the Redskins look like a team that is on their way back heading into a new decade and century. 2000 Season- Instead of losing to Detroit, Arizona, Philadelphia and New York; the Redskins win these four games. They finish the season 12-4 qualifying for the playoffs for a second straight season and earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs... In their Divisional Round matchup with the Giants, the Giants fall to Washington 28-6 and so Washington advances to their second straight NFC Championship where they face the mighty Minnesota Vikings... For a second straight season Washington fails to advance to the Superbowl losing a heartbreaker to Minnesota 23-26 in overtime! Minnesota loses to the Baltimore Ravens two weeks later 27-24! 2001 Season- Following their second straight loss in the NFC Championship, management and Norv Turner part ways and Marty Schottenheimer is hired out of retirement to lead the Redskins... This season they beat Dallas twice and Chicago and improve to 11-5 and earn the last spot into the playoffs... Their wild-card opponent happens to be the Eagles and Washington pulls off the upset winning 20-16 and advancing to play the St. Louis Rams for a second time in three years in the playoffs... St. Louis again gives Washington a beating, this time 24-6... 2002 Season- The Redskins beat the NY Giants but nothing else changes here... They finish the season 8-8 missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1998 season. Fans accustomed to winning the past three years are not happy with the season and Scottenheimer feels pressure from the fans and management but instead of resigning as some thought he might, he decides to give it one more year... 2003 Season- The Redskins win the close ones beating NY Giants, Philadelphia, Carolina, Miami, New Orleans and Chicago... With a record of 11-5 the Redskins find themselves back in the playoffs while their rival Dallas sits at home... As the fifth seed Washington takes on Favre and the Packers in the wild-card round where Washington receives a beaten 45-13! The next week Schottenheimer signs a two-year extension... The Pack loses to Philadelphia the next week and the rest is history... 2004 Season- Back with the Skins for a fourth season, Schottenheimer directs Washington to a 10-6 season beating Dallas twice and Cleveland and Philadelphia along the way... Washington gets into the playoffs as a wild-card team, the fifth seed again and this time they face the Seattle Seahawks... As was the case the season before, Washington comes up empty with a 14-19 loss to Seattle... Seattle loses the next week to Philadelphia and the rest is history... 2005 Season- With their second straight loss in the playoffs early, Schottenheimer and the Skins parted ways with quarterback Brad Johnson and brought in Mark Brunell to groom rookie quarterback, Kyle Orton who was the Redskins first pick in the draft that Spring. The Redskins were able to beat Denver and Tampa Bay to improve their record to 12-4, their best under Schottenheimer and big things are expected by the fans... As a number two seed, Washington gets a bye week and then in the divisional round they take on the Carolina Panthers where they topple the Panthers 20-7 to advance to the NFC Championship! Their opponent in the NFC Championship is the same team that put them out of the playoffs the previous season, the Seattle Seahawks! For the second straight season the Seahawks end the Skins season with a 34-24 loss... For Washington it's their third loss in the NFC Championship in seven years. Frustrated with the lack of a Superbowl appearance, opts not to renew Schottenheimers contract. Schottenheimers tenure in Washington ends with a record of 54-32 but 2-4 in the playoffs... 2006 Season- A familiar face returns to Washington as Joe Gibbs comes home... In his first season back at the helm Washington finishes 7-9, their worst season in eight years! Gibbs promises that things will get better... 2007 Season- Washington wins a key game against Buffalo to improve to 10-6 for the season but their fate is sealed by Seattle yet again! Feeling that the game may have passed him by, Gibbs resigns following the season... 2008 Season- Coach Greg Williams promises the future is bright for Washington... With three key wins against St. Louis, Dallas and San Francisco, Washington finds themselves with an 11-5 record. Entering the playoffs for the second straight season they face-off against the #3 seeded Minnesota Vikings... The Redskins pull of an amazing upset behind the arm of Orton winning 23-10! Washington's next opponent just happens to be division rival and defending Superbowl Champion, NY Giants! Washington is not to be denied as they score another upset, 13-9 over the defending Superbowl Champions! The Hogs are out in full force as they are back in the NFC Title game for a fourth time in ten years! Standing in the way of Washington and a Superbowl are the Arizona Cardinals... Can you say NFC Champion Washington Redskins! Under first year coach Greg Williams and fourth year quarterback Orton, the Skins win the NFC crown, 17-13! The Redskins reach the Superbowl for the first time in seventeen years! That is where it ends for these Skins as they lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-10... 2009 Season- The Skins closeout a decade of success with an 8-8 season with key wins against Detroit, Dallas, Philly and eventual NFC Champion, New Orleans Saints...
