Research by Andrew Walton and others at the Gerontology Research Group validated her case in September 2007. The original birth and death documents were located for Miss Dart, who never married. Her death was covered by local newspapers, including page 5 of the October 9, 1963 Herald Express and page 12 of the October 12, 1963 Paignton Observer. She was said to have been in good shape until shortly before her death at age 108 years, 341 days. She was previously thought to have been the world's oldest person when she died, but the validation of Mary Kelly meant she never held the title.
