Exal Kressh was a female of the Sith Pureblood species who was the daughter and Sith apprentice of the Sith Emperor, who'd conceived her with a daughter of Kressh The Younger. She eventually left the Reformed Sith Empire and after faking her death at the hands of Teneb Kel, came under the tutelage of her uncle, Darth Kadant who completed her Sith training.

During her time under his tutelage, Kressh managed to uncover a grim secret of her master; the Emperor had, over the years, been inserting his "essence" into various Sith. He had almost succeeded the process with her, but she escaped from his grasp. During her retreat, Kressh began plotting, and decided to turn on the Empire purely out of spite of her former master. She set course for Republic space in order to fulfill her plan.
