Alessandro Tenaglia (born October 8, 1942) is an Italian politician currently serving as Senator-for-Life and who served as the fifth Prime Minister of Italy, from 1995 to 2003. Serving eight consecutive years, he is to date the longest-interred Prime Minister of Italy. His Social Democratic Party was defeated in the 2003 general elections by Altero Matteoli and the AN-DC-PLI coalition. Tenaglia was regarded as a left-wing politician who governed with centrism to attract moderates and sympathetic Christian Democrats and Liberals.
