When the Third Doctor, Tobias Philby and Thomas were brought to British HQ, Ponsford did not believe the Doctor's report of a massive German artillery build-up and suspected him and his associates of being German spies. To prove themselves, the Doctor and a pilot went on a flight over German lines, narrowly escaping being shot down.
