- The eggplant (Solanum melongena) or aubergine was a plant from Earth with an edible fruit. In 2151, eggplant was served aboard the Enterprise. Phlox remarked to Hoshi Sato in the Denobulan language that he didn't care for that vegetable. Sato attempted to reply in Denobulan that eggplant was not a vegetable but a fruit, but accidentally used the word for "nostril" instead of "fruit". (ENT: "Dear Doctor") In 2372, Joseph Sisko bragged to his son about the size of the eggplant he was getting from his garden, which he described "as big as Crenshaw melons and twice as heavy." (DS9: "Homefront")

- Eggplant is a member of the nightshade family and is native to India. It is an annual plant growing 0.4-1.5 m tall, often spiny, with large, coarsely lobed leaves 10–20 cm long and 5–10 cm broad. The flowers are white to purple, with a five-lobed corolla and yellow stamens. The fruit is a fleshy berry, 3 cm diameter on wild plants (much larger in cultivated forms), containing numerous small, soft seeds. The early varieties were bitter, but cultivation and crossbreeding have greatly improved the flavor. Eggplant is related to potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers.
- Eggplant passed away on Febuary 1-2, 2007 of a diabetic coma. He will be remembered as an excellent pirate and an excellent person. Eggplant began his time on the Viridian Ocean in late Spring of 2005. While he originally found himself a sailor, he has continued on to become generally a carpenter and battle navigator. He has been, on occasion, known to shout about seemingly random tripe not unlike an old salt. This has been talk of sea serpents and counting from zero, not one, being the cause of his tendency to fire cannons early. A fellow crew member would be more prone to blame the drink.
