| - Catalysts are casting tools in Demon's Souls. All spells require catalysts with which to cast them.
- Catalysts are used to increase the success rate of Production and Refine Manuals. You can only use Gems, Armour and Weapons that are refined to at least +5 as Catalysts. Please Note that you can't use Accessories regardless of how high they're refined. Please see Point Refining to actually have a use for these numbers. 1 Point on the above tables translates to different success rates based on what manual you're using, Point Refining lists all the production manuals and how many slots it has as well as how much a single Point adds. Suppose we have the Production Manual for Accessory #3 (Titan Claw), finding it on the Point Refining tables we find this which tells us to make a Titan Claw at 100% success we need 18.5 Points worth of Catalysts, and that there's only 3 Slots to do it in. Scrolling back up to the top of these PT tables we find that a Pink Diamond adds 10 Points, so 2 Pink Diamonds would add 20 points which would be above the 18.5, so 2 Pink Diamonds would be enough Catalysts to raise the success rate of the Titan Claw Production Manual to 100% Success. Suppose you're Poor and only own 1 Pink Diamond and a few Normal Diamonds. Seeing the manual has 3 slots you could use 1 Pink and 2 Normal Diamonds at most, which adds up to 14 Points. Each Point according to the Point Refining Table gives 4.42%, so the 14 Points from the 1 pink and 2 normal diamonds would give 14 x 4.42% = 61.88% Bonus Success Rate on top of the Base Success rate of 20%, giving a grand total of 81.88% chance of success using 1 Pink and 2 Normal Diamonds on a Titan Claw Manual, or 100% success using 2 Pink Diamonds. To calculate using Equipment instead of Diamonds is the exact same Procedure. Refining Manuals are a bit more difficult, since the % per point varies based on the item the manual is used on. For example a +7 Burning Tail will need a different amount of Points to raise to 100% success than a +8 Mariel Wings even if you're using the same Refine Manual on them. The easy way of calculating is Grab the Manual, the Item you want to refine and a Crystal. Open up the refining skill and put on the item and the Crystal and take note how much % the Crystal gives, Since Crystals are 1 Point it's fairly easy to figure out how much Catalysts you'll need to refine that item at 100% success.
