This is a good exercise for yo-yoing beginners. It should be done with a very responsive yo-yo, i.e. a yo-yo that returns promptly, when the string is pulled. Actually this trick can even be done with kiddie yo-yos, where the string is fixed to the axle. In order to learn yo-yo control, try to do this throw fourty five degrees upwards (this way it is a precursor to Shoot the Moon) or downwards. Once you master this, you can go on to learn Shoot the Moon or Loop the Loop.

- Step 6: ...until it is level with your hand.
- Step 7: Now give it a tug and let it come back...
- Step 8: ...while turning your palm upwards.
- Step 9: Catch it...
- Step 10: ...and you have the yo-yo in your hand ready for the next throw. The palm has to be facing upwards, not only to make the catch easier, but also to have the yo-yo oriented correctly. If you catch it the other way round, you would have to turn it before throwing again.
- Step 2: Swing your throw arm forward while releasing the yo-yo.
- Step 1: Bring back your throw hand, holding the yo-yo facing backwards.
