Mega Man Battle Network 3 is a Game Boy Advance video game released in 2003 by Capcom. This game started the trend in the series of having multiple versions, much like the Pokémon series. Megaman Battle Network 3 came out in 2 versions, Blue and White. These games were basically the same, but they had slightly different sets of battle chips. In order to collect all of the battle chips, the player had to trade with someone who had the other version (once again like Pokémon). The next three games in the Battle Network series, as well as the Star Force series, have continued the tradition of having multiple versions.

All future "main" Battle Network games would be released in such complementary versions worldwide. The later Mega Man Star Force series would do the same, though the original Star Force had three such versions and Star Force 2 was seemingly planned to have an even higher number.

  • Mega Man Battle Network 3, known as Battle Network Rockman.EXE 3 (バトルネットワーク ロックマンエグゼ3 Batoru Nettowāku Rokkuman Eguze 3?) in Japan, is the third game from the Mega Man Battle Network series, released for Game Boy Advance. It is the first Battle Network game to have multiple versions. The original Japanese release was a standalone game; a few months later, an "enhanced" version (with bugfixes, different Battle Chips/bosses, etc.) was released, titled Black. A few more months after that, the Mega Man localization was released, with two different versions from the start: White and Blue. The versions are based on the differences between the original EXE 3 and Black, but have the various bugfixes from Black. All future "main" Battle Network games would be released in such complementary versions worldwide. The later Mega Man Star Force series would do the same, though the original Star Force had three such versions and Star Force 2 was seemingly planned to have an even higher number.
