The M46 Rapid Active Transit System, also known as RATS, is a device used by the UNSC armed forces to rapid navigate urban terrain to often gain vertical navigation. The M46 uses a 250 foot long resin aggregate soaked carbon-fibre weave cable around a liquid crystal lattice core (with enough tensile strength to carry almost 6000 pounds) wrapped around a powered winch, deriving its power from a pair of hydrogen battery cells. The cable is attached to two titanium carbide expanding hooks, designed to electronically spring open either after penetration of a solid object or after a predetermined distance. Their electronic control is fed through though a specialised fire control computer with LASER range finder and fire selector for firing one or both hooks. This is fitted to a carbine type frame with a collapsing stock. Once fired, the weapon frame can be used as a winch to pull the user up or to pull them across gaps and can be followed by users carrying a M43B powered winch.
