The Kalak'tanna-class Star Cruiser was a long standing warship used by the Echani for centuries. Originally conceived just prior to the onset of the Great Galactic War the ship was a massive representation of Echani warmaking skills. Despite its large size and heavy armament, and the Echani's tendency to place an emphasis on armor, the ship was very agile. Four HyperVelocity Series engines, produced by Tashiro Industries, one of the corporations branching out from the original Mikaru Shipwrights, gave the ship impressive speed and maneuverability.

Despite its large size and heavy armament, and the Echani's tendency to place an emphasis on armor, the ship was very agile. Four HyperVelocity Series engines, produced by Tashiro Industries, one of the corporations branching out from the original Mikaru Shipwrights, gave the ship impressive speed and maneuverability. Over the years ships of the class were refitted to fit newer standards and the class was constantly updated much like the Mikaru Corporations first product the Star Wind-class. Prior to the Clone Wars, in response to growing unrest in the galaxy and eventually the Separatist Crisis the Echani Confederation, as per tradition of their people in times that could lead to war, began a militarization effort. The Confederation Defense Navy was called into dry-dock for a series of upgrades and refits that took a total of 5 years. By the end of this Modernization Program the Kalak'tanna now in its seventeenth variation was brought up to standards. Twenty batteries of Quad Turbolasers gave the class an offensive punch that matched most Capital ships for the time. Twenty double barreled medium turbolaser batteries gave the class a balanced offensive-defensive close weapon system, while twenty modified C4-CZN Ion Field Guns were implemented to allow the ship to disable targets and Tractor beams were installed to let them haul disabled ships. While not standard some models were refitted with six missile tubes designed to launch nuclear fusion missiles. The yield of these missiles varied from 20 kilotons to 100 megatons depending on the situation. Powering the ship was, originally a heavy fusion reactor, but following the Modernization Program a newer Hypermatter Reactor was installed to power the newer, more power hungry systems. A backup fusion reactor, a smaller more compact version of the older reactor was also installed in the case of emergencies and to give power boosts to systems like the shields and weapons.
