Philip Stone (14th April 1924 - 15th June 2003) played two roles on Coronation Street: Peter Derwent in June 1961 and then from September of the same year to 1965 he appeared as a police sergeant, named later as Det Sergeant Sowman. He was born in Kirkstall, Leeds, the son of a schoolmaster and his first London stage appearance was in a revival of A Sleeping Clergyman in 1947 as an elderly waiter. He started his television career in 1960. He was the only actor to ever appear in three successive Stanley Kubrick films, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon and The Shining.
