Sydney Losstarot is the established antagonist in Vagrant Story. He is the leader of the Mullenkamp cult, a self-professed prophet who preaches about human weaknesses and the end of the world.

His hands and legs are prosthetics crafted from Hagane metal, the hands complete with clawed fingers, as he claims to have given his "limbs to the gods", having lost them during a childhood illness. Later on he allied with another powerful psycho, the demon Yurius. Sydney's reign of terror in the Sydney Losstarot War came to an end when the armies led by Raistlin I and Britton Leonhart stormed Lea Monde and killed him. The warlord's death had great ramifications as it turned Yurius even more insane, and the demon's sealing nearly destroyed the world.

Some scenes have also shown that he has the power to masquerade as other people. His Dark powers also extend to levitation, summoning dark creatures and teleportation. Ashley has discovered that Sydney is somewhat "immortal"; Ashley's direct shot to Sydney's heart only manages to hurt him little. Sydney has summoned Wyverns, Dullahans, and possessed statues to test Ashley's strength.

Some of his descendants such as Anoki Lain and Rhys Lain turned out to be decent people, However, one descendant named Arawn Losstarot would emerge centuries later to continue his forefather's plans of world domination. Arawn fathered children as well, thus continuing the Losstarot legacy, and the descendants of these children, Glaurung and Hannibal, would emerge millennia later to terrorize the world just like Sydney and Arawn had done.
