When You Need Me was the Irish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem performed by The Mullans. The song is a ballad, sung from the perspective of a woman whose lover has ended their relationship. She explains that she realises that they had not connected ("But the fool that I am/Never tried to understand") and pleads with him for another chance, promising that "When you need me I'll be there". It was performed 17th following Portugal and preceding Austria. At the close of voting, it finished in 17th place with 18 points
