About: DC Database:Vandalism   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

Vandalism is an unfortunate side-effect of maintaining a database on the internet which anyone can edit. It can appear in many forms: Testing, Obscenities, Link-Spamming and/or Advertising. While some forms are considered more malicious than others, all are a nuissance and must be cleaned up... Testing vandalism is often not malicious at all. It is usually a result of a brand new user 'trying' out our database; seeing if they can actually make live changes. These edits still need to be tidied up, but usually can be done knowing that it won't happen again.

  • Vandalism is an unfortunate side-effect of maintaining a database on the internet which anyone can edit. It can appear in many forms: Testing, Obscenities, Link-Spamming and/or Advertising. While some forms are considered more malicious than others, all are a nuissance and must be cleaned up... The Database Project is completely intolerant of Advertising and Obscenities. Advertising often takes the form of links other websites selling unrelated items such as software and pharmaceuticals. There is absolutely no value to our project and creates more work for our editors. Obscenities are also of no added value, but certainly can offend visiting readers and lower our perception as a valid resource in the comic community. Link-Spamming is a different matter. If the link is to a website of value, one which offers new information not provided by our database, the link can remain to benefit our readers. If the link is to a website which contains no new information, it should be removed until such time that 'new value' has been added. Testing vandalism is often not malicious at all. It is usually a result of a brand new user 'trying' out our database; seeing if they can actually make live changes. These edits still need to be tidied up, but usually can be done knowing that it won't happen again. We are always striving to keep our database in pristine order. We feel it is important to maintain a positive view in the light of the community in order to keep growing our visitor base. Please help keep the Database Project clean!
