Attwell remained in Montreal and played for the Junior Canadiens and the Montreal Junior Royals in 1953-54. He turned pro in 1954 and remained in the minor pros until 1967. That year he was sold to the expansion St. Louis Blues by the Canadiens. He played 18 games for the Blues as a 32 year old rookie before being traded to the New York Rangers with Ron Stewart for Barclay Plager and Red Berenson. That was the extent of his NHL career, scoring 1 goal and 7 assists. Attwell played three seasons for the American Hockey League's Buffalo Bisons and retired in 1970.
