Aberdeen, Scotland was Scotland's third most populous city before the war with a population in excess of 200,000. The traditional industries of fishing, paper-making, shipbuilding, and textiles were overtaken in the second half of the 20th century by the oil industry. Aberdeen was the target of a Soviet nuclear attack in 1997.
