In 1925, three of the Genna brothers, Angelo, Mike and Tony Genna, were killed. After the death of Tony, the power of the Genna clan was broken. Jim, Sam, and Peter Genna fled Chicago to Sicily. Eventually, they all returned to Chicago, but lived the remainder of their lives in obscurity separating themselves from the rackets to run an olive oil importing firm. On December 20, 1951, Salvatore "Sam" Genna, the last of the Chicago Genna brothers, died at his home at the age of 67 from a heart attack. He left a wife, two sons and a daughter.
