As a storyboard artist and illustrator, he has worked on a number of films, television shows, and video games including Revolution, The Walking Dead, American Reunion, games in the Ghost Recon series, and The Vampire Diaries. Some comics titles he worked on include Morbius: The Living Vampire, and Justice League International. His only Star Trek contribution is inking work on "Turn of the Tide".

Whereas Cryer is modest, experienced and respected, Gilmore has been fast-tracked to promotion, has been a Sergeant for less than a year and is considered by his colleagues to be arrogant. He is the first openly gay Sergeant and police officer in the show's history. He left Sun Hill after receiving a severe beating from a suspect, and having a relationship with PC Luke Ashton, a closeted homosexual, who was married to PC Kerry Young at the time, who was also pregnant with his child.
