| - SJ was born outside of Puerto Aventuras in Mexico, while his parents and older siblings were on holiday visiting SJ's Great Grandmother, who is a native of the Puerto Aventuras area, during the Christmas/New Year holiday period. SJ was born on December 29, 1977 and is the elder half of "The Terrible Twins". He was born with the full name of Simon James Funk, and has since shortened it to SJ Funk, via Simon J. Funk. SJ has three siblings, his unidentical twin brother Brian Funk, who is known in the wrestling world as "The Inferno Kid" Brian Haye, an older sister Stacy who is 2years SJ's elder, and finally Martin, who is the eldest of the four, being a further 2years older than Stacy. SJ began his interest in wrestling at the early age of just 4, after constantly being taken to watch the old World of Sport wrestling that was broadcast on television in the United Kingdom. As well as being taken to watch the major wrestling companies in the country of his birth and heritage Mexico. His interest grew greater every year, and when he reached the age of 12, he joined a local wrestling school for children that was being run by a Scottish Professional wrestler John Mcillroy. Under the watch of John, SJ trained long and hard and showed great determination to join any professional wrestling company when he was deemed old enough. However at the age of 16, he left school and while he couldn't find a company with its very own academy SJ enlisted into the Regular British Army. SJ was in the regular army for only a year, before he decided to enroll his name in application for the Elite Armed Force known as the Special Air Service (SAS). SJ seamed determined to prove himself as an elite soldier and at the age of 17 he became the youngest SAS Soldier, passing through all the training and selection programs known in the regiment as sickeners. SJ's career with the SAS was only a short one of four and a half years, but he did become a great soldier and was respected by all his piers. SJ' left the SAS and the army altogether due to suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) caused by the exposure to several if not more traumatic events in places such as the Borneo Jungle, the Telok Anson Swamp and Northern Ireland. SJ underwent a huge amount of psychological treatment as he kept having flashbacks and nightmares about all that passed before him, as well as suffering from huge amounts of anger, which he went through rigorous anger management courses. SJ reacted well to the treatment and a full year after leaving the SAS and Army on the medical grounds SJ was given a full bill of health, both physically and mentally. No longer suffering from the anger issues, however he does tend to remember those conrades that fell only a few short feet from him in the past, of which still have a slight effect, but SJ knows how to deal with them.
