  • Fossil specimens referrable to Metriorhynchus are known from Middle-Late Jurassic deposits of England, France and Germany.
  • Metriorhynchus is an extinct genus of marine crocodyliform that lived in the oceans during the Middle to Late Jurassic. Metriorhynchus was named by the German palaeontologist Christian von Meyer in 1830. Metriorhynchus was a carnivore that spent much, if not all, its life out at sea. No Metriorhynchus eggs or nests have been discovered, so little is known of the reptile's lifecycle, unlike other large marine reptiles of the Mesozoic, such as plesiosaurs or ichthyosaurs which are known to give birth to live young out at sea. Where Metriorhynchus mated, whether on land or at sea, is currently unknown. The name Metriorhynchus means "Moderate snout", and is derived from the Greek Metrio- ("moderate") and -rhynchos ("snout").
  • Metriohynchus is a crocodilian from the Jurassic as a animal in Formidable Seas (it is among the most well made animals in the availiable pirated download; the pack was officially cancelled and fused into Cretaceous Calamity, so the animal will not be found in the final version, as it lived in the Jurassic period.). Also found in Sea Monsters, and was previously found in the Prehistoric Pandomonium expansion pack, which was cancelled. Notably, it is present twice in cancelled xps, and in both cases the team behind the packs never released the creature as a seperate download.
  • Metriorhynchus is a prehistoric crocodilian (a metrirohynchid), which lived in Late Jurassic England, France, Germany, Argentina, and Chile around 165-145 MYA, during the Late Jurassic time period. It lived in shallow waters and had a fish-like tail, and although it was distantly related to modern day crocodiles (the eusuchians), Metriorhynchus became completely aquatic: its feet became flippers and it lost the body armor typical of the crocodilians, so its only hope of escaping predators such as Liopleurodon was its speed.

Metriorhynchus fed mainly on aquatic animals such fish and ammonites, but it could also leap up from the water to snag pterosaurs that flew too low with its scissor-like jaws. Unlike other crocodiles, Metriorhynchus gives birth to several live infants. The mother probably did not take care of her young for very long. They spent most of their time in shallow waters catching anything their size allowed. But sometimes Metriorhynchus came to deeper waters, though this was very rare, usually when hunting the giant fish Leedsichthys.
