Shiak was one of the nine marks of contact in lightsaber combat and described a stabbing attack with the point of a lightsaber. It was generally accomplished with a single-handed lunge, although a two-handed jab or lunge was also called shiak. Shiak was the preferred mark of contact of Makashi stylists, and the preferred method of delivering a killing blow for Jedi Knights, as it left the body more intact than other killing blows.

  • Jedi Consular Raana Tey received a shiak strike from Shel Jelavan, though it did not immediately end her life. Shiak was featured several times during the duel onboard Korriban's orbital security station between Sith Inquisitor Vindican, his apprentice Malgus and Jedi Master Kao Cen Darach and his Padawan, Satele Shan. Vindican attempted to impale Darach in the face but the Zabrak Jedi easily dodged the Inquisitor's strike. Later on, Darach, fighting the two Sith single-handedly, managed to incapacitate Vindican by activating the second blade of Shan's saberstaff through the Sith's abdomen.
