- Comfort food was a term for any food which affected the eater's emotions in a positive manner. Tom Paris considered peanut butter and jelly sandwiches comfort food, something Neelix found "charming". (VOY: "Faces")
- These are often the foods that we want when we are feeling worn down, sad or sick. Comfort foods tend not be thought of as "high class", gourmet or fancy foods. The association of a food with comfort may come from the person who used to make it for us, the people we eat it with or the situations when we eat it. Comfort food preferences tend to be developed when we are young.
- Here is the illustrated recipe and cooking instructions for a dinner you can cook up when you’ve run out of ideas - or you can’t be bothered to go out shopping for any fresh ingredients - or the shops have closed and you’ve not got a lot in your fridge. It is a delicious “comfort food” dish that is the sort of thing we in the Route79 household prepare when there’s nothing else to cook out in the house - except for the most basic of ingredients and a tactical tin of sardines! And I am calling it “Pilchard rice”.
