Fusco played for Harvard from 1981 to 1986, taking a year off to play for the United States in the 1984 Olympics. He is currently the highest scorer in Harvard's history and earned all-star honours in every college year. The New Jersey Devils picked him 211th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. They traded him later that year to the Hartford Whalers. He and his brother Mark became the first brothers to both win the Hobey Baker Award. Scott was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002 and is currently assistant coach of the Irish national hockey team.

After his graduation from Harvard in 1986 Fusco could not reach terms with the Whalers and instead went to Switzerland to play one season for EHC Olten. The following year he would again represent his country in the Olympics, this time the 1988 Olympics. He retired after the Olympics. He and his brother Mark became the first brothers to both win the Hobey Baker Award. Scott was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002 and is currently assistant coach of the Irish national hockey team.
