She called him and apologetically disinvited him to the funeral since his presence would only remind her of what he did to her family. She also disinvited Det. Rodney Ellis who had carried out the investigation and laid the charges. Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. After it was discovered that Mike Pitcavage was the South Bay Strangler, Caroline reconsidered and telephone Ferguson to apologize. She explained that she thought and said horrible things about Ferguson until she discovered what a monster Mike had been. She hinted that Mike hadn't used all the pills but then told Ferguson not to call 911 because she didn't intend to kill herself. She wondered what Oprah or Ellen would pay for her to open up on national TV but then said she would discuss it with her lawyer first. She apologized again and then hung up.
