Hamal was one of the Somali pirates working under Osman Xasan Muhamad during Rogue. Hamal was one of the 19 pirates who boarded and took control of the Barataria in the Gulf of Aden. Hamal helped search below decks of the ship, and while on level 3 he was radioed by Osman's second in command Sadiq Khalif Fárah. Sadiq ordered him to go to Callum Trent's forward port stateroom and look behind the painting of the Yankee clipper. Hamal did so and found Trent's safe. The pirates then grabbed tools and removed the safe from the wall before melting it open.

Later, after the pirates discovered the presence of Jack Bauer on the ship, Hamal went with Sadiq and Yusuf to find him below decks. While in Hold 2, Hamal waited until Jack stopped firing before charging ahead. However, at that moment Jack set off explosives throughout Hold 2 which killed Hamal, as he was in the killing zone.
