Dr. Mohammad Najibullah Ahmadzai (Pashto: نجيب الله) (born August 6, 1947) was the President of Afghanistan between 1987 until 1997. He is considered the founding father of modern day Afghanistan, leading the country away from Communism and into a more democratic nation. He is the founder of the Democratic Watan Party of Afghanistan, and has become an activist toward peace in the Middle East.
