The town of Stafford was the capital of the county of Stafford. It lies at the junction of four roads, north to Beeston, west to Shrewsbury and two south to Birmingham and Lichfield. Due to population problems, the City was downgraded to a Village when Stafford and Worcester merged into Mercia.
