His family was reduced to the status of a figurehead dynasty when the Solarian League Office of Frontier Security took control of the Meyers System a few generations before his birth, so he concentrated on philanthropic pursuits, and gave support to public education out of the royal family's private coffers. In 1922 PD, the Star Empire of Manticore deployed its Tenth Fleet to Meyers to wrestle the system from Solarian control. Once all SLN warships and foreign freighters were secured, Admiral Gold Peak offered King Lawrence the chance to reestablish the Kingdom of Meyers as a sovereign star nation. He accepted and ordered his prime minister, Thomas Montview, to form a new government in his name. (HH14)
