The 1963 World 600 was a Grand National (now Nextel Cup) event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on June 2, 1963. Fred Lorenzen won in dominating fashion, holding off polesitter Junior Johnson by some thirty-five seconds. Eventual season champ Joe Weatherly finished 4th. Stats Junior Johnson actually dominated the race. He led 289 laps to Lorenzen's 76. He was leading and blew a tire with 3 laps to go and still finished 2nd after pitting.
