Alisdar was born the son of Svaldur and Leka in the distant region of Andorja. As the only child of the Captain of the Guard, Alisdar's childhood was often punctuated with bursts of heavy discipline, only tempered by the uncharacteristic Asmodian kindness of his mother's affection while Svaldur was attending to duties away from the home. Alisdar's father expected great things of his young son. These expectations, however, were often met with disappointment; the boy was predisposed to a quiet, thoughtful nature, spending much of his time reading.

  • Alisdar was born the son of Svaldur and Leka in the distant region of Andorja. Svaldur's anger upon finding one of Alisdar's books, which his mother smuggled into the home and Alisdar often hid beneath his mattress, was legendary; it was only exceeded by Svaldur's rage at Leka. He often yelled at her for "spoiling the boy", an event that usually concluded in Alisdar's book being tossed into the fire, followed by a week or two of fierce training to "bring him up right". So it was by nurture, not nature, that Alisdar became a soldier, as was expected of most young men in Andorja when they came of age. His father's influence had brought him to a significantly competant level in swordplay before even joining the Andorjan forces, and this made him rather popular with his peers. Many expected him to rise to command of his own squadron within a year, but each time a test of leadership was offered by Pysen, second in command of the Andorjan forces, Svaldur refused it on Alisdar's behalf, stating that the boy was "not ready." It was commonly said in the barracks that Alisdar's future was the greatest casualty of Svaldur and Pysen's extremely public power feud. Alisdar, for his part, never argued or questioned these interventions, nor even seemed to publicly notice the controversy. He kept mostly to himself, focusing more on training and studying. He was generally well-liked, though all but a few kept their distance for fear of running afoul of Svaldur's wrath.
